Artist Feature: Yas Imamura @ Quill and Fox

Please welcome Yas Imamura at Quill and Fox, a fabulous illustrator who lives in Oregon, Portland.

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself. Where you are from. Your education, culture and goals.
Hi! My name is Yas and I'm based in Oregon. My husband and I both work from home as illustrators, which was pretty much our goal off of graduating from art school.

2. Who are your favorite artists, designers, or fashion icons that have influenced your creative style? who do you admire?
I'm absolutely inspired by Maira Kalman's illustrations and her style of composition. I also admire Charley Harper's art and the way he really condenses how he sees nature and animals into simple but expressive shapes.

3. Where do you normally find your inspiration?
I've been diving into a lot of books lately, as I tend to find unexpected inspirations off of them. I also like looking at patterns on things a lot.

4. What was your favorite project? Describe it.
My favorite project I think is my Father's day cards. I'm a bit of a tomboy, and I do enjoy having the draw objects and figures more than frilly flowers! :)

5. What is your dream project? Describe it.
A stop motion! Maybe partly made out of paper, with a lot of details and painting involved.

6. How do you describe your progress?
I like to sketch things out first and draft out different ideas. Once I find something that looks interesting, I plan out the colors and where things go. I go on to redraw them again and tidy it up.

7. What is your favorite fashion possession of the moment?

Hmm, I notice I've been quite fond of this cardigan I got from J.Crew that I've been wearing repeatedly. It's striped and beautifully embellished. An easy way to prim up any outfit I think!

8. If someone was going to visit your city, what one place would you recommend them to see?
Portland is a bit of a small city, so I think I nice walk around it would be the best experience for someone visiting. You get a good sweep of the culture, the foodcarts, and the various small shops.

Thank you Yas and best of luck to you!

xo,
Ksenia
