Artist Feature: Mandy Crandell @ Something Monumental

Happy Monday to all! Today I would love to introduce to you, the beautiful, fun, and so very talented Mandy Crandell at Something Monumental. I am sure you would love her too! And don't forget to visit her shop {I personally own one of her bracelets :)}.

1. Tell a little bit about yourself. Where you are from. Your education, culture and goals.

To start, my name is Mandy. I'm a jewelry designer and photographer. Currently, I am living in Indiana (I have a tendency to move about every two years). I studied art at Indiana University focusing on drawing and metalsmithing. My real goal in life is to be a sort of Renaissance Man. That may seem a bit lofty, but I'm definitely going to try.

2. Who are your favorite artists, designers, or fashion icons that have influenced your creative style or who you admire?

Honestly, the only person who has truly influenced me is Tim Burton. It's pretty evident in my work. Lots of stripes, pointy edges, and stitches. I love everything that man does.

3. Where do you normally find your inspiration?

Inspiration comes from everywhere really. Most of it comes from music, old movies, and the occasional magazine, though.

4. What was your favorite project? Describe it.

My favorite might be my most recent. I'm always working on little DIY projects, but this one felt different. I repainted a small doll to look like Coraline. She even had a tiny raincoat with buttons.

5. What is your dream project? Describe it.

That would have to do with photography. I would love to find a muse or couple of models to work with. Maybe a beach or an abandoned building series. I'd like for it to tell a story.

6. How would you describe your process?

Trial and error with lots of bleeding ...and I usually glue myself to something.

7. What is your favorite fashion possession of the moment?

Fashion for me is shoes. I have so many. My favorite pair would be my denim platforms.

8. If someone was going to visit your city, what one place would you recommend them to see?

Since I love dinosaurs, I would say the Children's Museum. Several giant dinosaur statues are either peeking into or breaking out of the building. It's also the world's largest children's museum.

Thank you Mandy! Best of luck to you, and I hope you will conquer your dreams.

    1. You are so welcome! And by the way if we end up in Indiana, I am so taking Daniil, my 4 year old, to the Children's museum :)
